Adopted Rule Changes for Spring 2022

Modified:  ByLaw 10.3 - Organization of Play 

10.3. The South Shore Soccer League President shall appoint a Rules Committee, which shall submit proposed changes to the South Shore Soccer League Rules of Play for the upcoming season. The proposed changes will be presented and discussed at the May and/or June meetings. The Associations will vote formally on the proposed changes during the August or September meeting. Approval shall be by a majority of the voting delegates present and voting. Additionally, the South Shore League Executive Board may propose changes before the start of the spring season by sending a notice to the membership. The membership will discuss and formally vote on the changes at the SSSL general meeting in March. Changes passed by vote will become effective immediately. Rules cannot be changed after the start of the season until the next rule change for the following year.

Rule 4.4. . . The Scheduler shall try to adhere to the following days and times for the playing of these games and attempt to honor towns requesting their home games on a certain day of the week Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Modified: Rule 5.2 - Rescheduling of Official Games


Rule 5.2 . . . the proper reschedule form is sent to the Game Scheduler and Referee Assignor along with the appropriate fees payable to the S.S.S.L. The fee is determined based on when the form is received. These fees are $10.00 if rescheduled between February 1 and March 20th, else the fee is $50.00. There are no fees for rescheduling a S.S.S.L. Memorial weekend game or a game whose graduating participants are involved in a High School graduation. If the original game date is less than 10 days away. The reschedule form must have the date, time and location of the rescheduled game. Game times on Saturday or Sunday must conform to rule 4.4 Any reschedule forms not completed in their entirety (no TBDs or TBAs) will be rejected.

Rule 7.6 . . .If a S.S.S.L. Play-Off Game is still tied after regulation play two full extra time periods will be played of the following length . . . . . 

Gr9/10/11 and younger shall be 10 minutes . . . . . 

Gr12 and older shall be 15 minutes . . . . . 

And if still tied then F.I.F.A. penalty kick rules shall apply

b) Cross gender movement is allowed with a Player pass in a boys division.

   By Law 10.6….This letter signed by both town Presidents shall be forwarded to the South Shore Soccer
League Executive Board for approval.) If either town is opposed to the player movement, the player will
be required to play with the team from the town that he/she resides in. NOTE: If there is no team
available for the player in his/her town, he/she can play on the team of his/her choice. In addition, if a
player attends school in another town, that player has the option of playing for the team in the town in
which they reside or the town they attend school in. No release is required under this scenario. Notice
of the transfer must be provided to the home registrar. The player must provide proof of enrolment
upon request of the registrar.
Any player, who wishes to transfer from one league to another league,
must have a written agreement signed by both town Presidents and both league Presidents for the
transfer to be valid for MTOC eligible teams. If a town, decides to move a player of one town not
wanting the move, that town’s teams will not be eligible for MTOC competition. If a team decides to
accept a player in spite of the town does not want the move, that team will not be eligible for MTOC

   ByLaw 10.2A. The South Shore Soccer League Rules of Play for fair and equitable play among Association
teams shall be posted on the SSSL web site. The Rules of Play shall be listed in five parts: Registration &
Placement (Rules one through three); Official Game Rules and Modifications to FIFA Laws (Rules
four through eight & ten); Gr 5/6 Rule Modifications; Gr 3/4 Rule Modifications and SSSL Zero
Tolerance Policy (Rule 9)

   By Law 10.7. Divisional Play Structure: Placement of teams in each separate age and gender grouping shall
be determined using the following criteria. A) Age and gender groupings shall be defined as follows:
Gr 3/4 Boys, Gr 3/4 Girls, Gr 5/6 Boys, Gr 5/6 Girls, Gr 7/8 Boys, Gr 7/8 Girls, Gr 9/10/11 Boys, Gr
9/10/11 Girls, Gr 12/PG Boys, Gr 12/PG Girls.

All PG games will start on the first weekend in May and must end by the weekend before the SSSL
Playoffs are scheduled. Teams must play a minimum of six (6) games per season within this time frame.

US Soccer Mandated Change Eliminates Heading for 11 and younger 

In order to implement this mandate the SSSL is implementing the following change for all u12 and younger games starting this spring: 

"It shall be considered a dangerous play when a player deliberately heads or attempts to head the ball.  Any violation of this rule shall result in an indirect free kick for the opponent.  Simultaneous violations by both teams will result in a dropped ball."
